Why I Started Silphium
Silphium began with a simple truth I couldn’t ignore:
too many people walk into an IUD appointment anxious, unsupported, or bracing for pain, and far too many walk out feeling unheard.
Again and again, I listened to stories from friends, colleagues, and communities who described the same thing: discomfort dismissed, pain minimised, and an experience that felt far more difficult than it needed to be.
No one should have to prepare for a medical procedure thinking, “I just have to put up with this.”
I got tired of waiting for someone else to fix it.
So I created Silphium.

What I Believe
I believe that comfort is not optional.
I believe consent is not a formality.
I believe pain management is not a “nice-to-have.”
I believe people deserve clear information, genuine agency, and real support during procedures that directly affect their bodies.
And I believe clinicians deserve tools, training, and recognition for providing care that honours all of this.
Silphium is my commitment to raising the standard of IUD care, not by replacing the system, but by empowering the people within it who want to do better.
The Mission
Silphium exists to do three things well:
1. Listen to real experiences
Stories matter.
They reveal the gaps, the patterns, the places where care falls short and where it shines.
Your voice directly shapes what we build.
2. Set a standard that prioritises people over procedure
No one’s body is “standard.”
No one’s pain is “expected.”
3. Support clinicians who are committed to better care
We highlight providers who lead with consent, compassion, and comfort.
We offer resources that help them continue doing what’s right.
Your experience deserves care that fits you.
